4 Days Rwanda Gorilla and Uganda Golden Monkey Trekking Safaris
Welcome to Leone Tours and Travel, We are glad your here!
This carefully crafted 4-day journey starts in Kigali, Rwanda, and takes you deep into the heart of Africa’s wildest corners. Track playful golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park, then cross into Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for an unforgettable encounter with mountain gorillas. Wind down with a peaceful escape to Lake Bunyonyi, often called the most beautiful lake in Uganda. It’s the perfect mix of adventure, nature, and cultural immersion, all in just four magical days.
Day 1: Pick-up in Kigali & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda)
Your adventure begins with a warm welcome from your Leone Tours and Travel driver-guide. Whether you’re arriving at Kigali International Airport or being picked up from a hotel, you’ll soon be heading north through Rwanda’s scenic countryside toward Volcanoes National Park.
Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of Rwanda’s terraced hills, rolling farmlands, and small rural communities. This drive offers a beautiful snapshot of the country’s unique landscape and altitude.
Arrive at your lodge near Volcanoes National Park and take the evening to relax, enjoy a hearty dinner, and rest up for tomorrow’s golden monkey tracking.

Day 2: Golden Monkey Tracking & Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (Uganda)
After an early breakfast, you’ll head to Kinigi Park Headquarters for a short briefing on golden monkey tracking. These rare and energetic primates live in the bamboo forests at the base of the volcanoes, and the experience of watching them leap from branch to branch is both fun and fascinating.
The entire excursion takes around 4 hours, with a 1-hour close encounter where you can photograph and observe the monkeys up close. Thanks to habituation, they are no longer as shy, so expect some fantastic moments.
Later in the day, you’ll cross into Uganda, traveling through the dramatic Kigezi Highlands—a region known as the “Switzerland of East Africa” for its cool climate and stunning vistas. Arrive at your lodge in Bwindi for a relaxed dinner and restful evening in preparation for gorilla trekking.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi & Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
Today is the highlight of your safari. After an early breakfast, make your way to the Bwindi Park Headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. Joined by an expert ranger, you’ll trek into the dense forest in search of a habituated gorilla family.
The trek can last between 2 to 6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ movements. The terrain is rugged and at times challenging, but the reward is immense—an hour in the presence of wild mountain gorillas. Watching them interact, care for their young, and relax in their natural environment is a soul-stirring experience that few will ever forget.
After your trek, enjoy your packed lunch and drive to Lake Bunyonyi, a serene crater lake surrounded by green hills. Check in at Bunyonyi Rock Resort for the night.
Optional activities: canoeing, swimming (safe here!), hiking, birdwatching, or a cultural village walk.
Overnight: Bunyonyi Rock Resort

Day 4: Canoe Ride on Lake Bunyonyi & Return to Kigali
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast with a view, then head to the lake for a guided canoe ride across its calm waters. Learn about the legends of the lake’s islands, meet local fishermen, and spot birds skimming the surface.
After the canoe ride, begin your journey back to Kigali, crossing the Rwanda-Uganda border. Along the way, enjoy a scenic lunch stop and one last look at the rolling hills that have accompanied you throughout the trip.
Arrive in Kigali by late afternoon or early evening. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel or the airport, marking the end of your East African primate adventure with Leone Tours and Travel.
